Harbor Living Collective provides private-duty, non-medical home care throughout Connecticut.

Some people need a few hours of help. Others need someone there every day. Some families are trying to keep a parent safely at home. Others are bringing someone home from the hospital or rehab and suddenly realizing they need more support than they expected.

We start by asking what is happening at home and what would actually make life easier.

As-Needed Care

Not everyone needs a regular caregiver every week.

As-needed care can help when a family caregiver is unavailable, someone needs support getting to an appointment, extra help is needed after a procedure or hospital stay, or you simply need another person there for part of the day.

As-needed visits have a six-hour minimum, and we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice whenever possible.

Part-Time & Weekly Care

For people who need regular support at home, we can build a consistent weekly schedule around their needs and routines.

That might mean help several days a week or a caregiver who is there throughout the workweek.

Whenever possible, we match clients with the same caregiver or small group of caregivers. Familiarity matters. The person coming into your home should get to know how you like your coffee, what you eat for lunch, when you like to get out of the house, and when you’d rather be left alone.

12-Hour Care

For families who need substantial daytime or overnight support, 12-hour shifts provide a longer stretch of care with fewer caregiver changes.

This can be especially helpful when someone needs assistance throughout the day, supervision and companionship, support overnight, or when family members can no longer safely manage care on their own.

Longer shifts also allow caregivers to really get to know the person they’re caring for—not just complete a list of tasks and leave.

Live-In Care

For someone who needs a caregiver in the home throughout the day and overnight, live-in care can provide a level of consistency that shorter shifts cannot.

We take matching particularly seriously with live-in care. Someone sharing your home becomes part of your everyday life. Personality, communication, food, routines, privacy and comfort all matter.

Live-in arrangements are discussed individually with each family and require appropriate sleeping accommodations for the caregiver.

What We Can Help With

Care looks different in every home. Depending on the needs of the person we’re supporting, Harbor caregivers can help with:

  • Personal care and daily routines
  • Companionship and supervision
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Transportation and errands
  • Mobility and safety support
  • Medication reminders
  • Appointments and activities
  • Respite for family caregivers
  • Maintaining familiar routines at home
  • Communication with family and other members of the care team, when appropriate

We Work Alongside Your Care Team

Home care is often only one piece of someone’s care.

When a client is also working with physicians, home health nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists or other professionals, Harbor is comfortable working alongside them within our role.

We want everyone involved to be working toward the same thing: helping the person remain as safe, independent and comfortable at home as possible.

Let’s Talk About What You Need

You don’t need to know whether you need 20 hours, 40 hours, 12-hour shifts or live-in care before you call us.

Tell us what’s happening.

Jessica or Nomi will talk with you about what is working, where you’re struggling and what kind of support might make sense. We’ll explain the options and rates clearly before care begins.
